George Wolfe
George Henry Wolfe (January 9, 1882 – April 4, 1979) was a pillar of the communities of
Mount Israel and Fellowsville. He was the local carpenter and woodworker
operating a planning mill and building several houses and barns in these and
surrounding communities. One of his most
impressive buildings is the present Mount Israel United Methodist Church of
which he was the main carpenter and chairperson of the building committee. This church was dedicated on October 24,
1920.
Mr. Wolfe was one of the founders of the Mount Israel Cemetery
Association and Homecoming. He served
as its treasurer from its founding in 1944 until 1972 when he was elected
vice-president. He served in this
capacity for several years. His
dedication was instrumental in the cemetery’s good care and presented beauty as
his legacy of commitment is continued today.
